What is a sotol plant?
The scientific name of sotol is dasylirion wheeleri. The plant is similar to appearance to a pineapple but with long thorny leaves. The plant is centuries old and was named sereque by the indians.

No. When the plant is harvested, the head of the plant is pruned by its base, leaving the root to grown and mature in 5-8 years. Sotol will not experience any shortage of plants. However, a re-planting program is being developed to increase the amount of sotol plants.
