What is a sotol plant?

The scientific name of sotol is dasylirion wheeleri.  The plant is similar to appearance to a pineapple but with long thorny leaves. The plant is centuries old and was named sereque by the indians.

How is the sotol and tequila related?

Sotol is a humble cousin to tequila.  Sotol is the drink for the State of Chihuahua as Tequila is for the State of Jalisco.

How did the indians use sotol?

The sotol plant was first used by the indians in their religious ceremonies and for food.  Also, the sotol nectar was used with herbs in a fermentation process for medicinal purposes.
